Deirdre McCalla
Concert Coming
By JOANNE FRUSTACI
"Bored with top 40's? Try Women's Music" reads a vintage 70's bumpersticker. Now some of you may have stopped trying. Too much diatribe, not enough fun. Words like patriarchy and monogamy set to lyrics set you off? And others of you may have stopped trying as concerts aimed for a wider, more commercial appeal. Too much fun, not enough diatribe. Or you may have thought you'd scream if you saw one more young white woman sing gamely of our differences in a sea of young white faces.

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Deirdre McCalla will entice the jaded at either extreme. This performer polished! Silky sweet voice. Effortless and enchanting stage presence. Irresistible loping rhythms.
Her new release on Olivia Records, "Don't Doubt It," is by far one of the best recent offerings of the nascent women's music industry. Exquisite ballads, reggae, rhythm and blues are her genres. McCalla calls her style acoustic pop. These are love songs wie eart and danceable dance tunes. The arragenenos_exe unmistakeably Teresa Trull's expert and exciting.
